Group Programs

Please contact us for more information and to determine whether either program is suitable for you child.

If neither program suits your child, please contact us to let us know what you’re looking for. We are happy to investigate additional programs based on need and interest.

Boys Only Group - Term 1 2018

Step by Step Psychology are running a group program which is ‘Boys Only’ aged between 8 – 13 years.

The group will have a project that participants will work on together over the five sessions with a focus on the following skills:

Emotion regulation (inc. anxiety management in social contexts)
Working as part of a team/group
Negotiation and compromise
Listening to the ideas of others
Conversation skills
Reading and understanding non-verbal cues and body language
Theory of Mind (understanding the point of view of others)

The group will run from 4-5.30pm fortnightly on Mondays during Term 1.

Total cost:  $550 per term.

To secure your child’s place, we would require a $100 deposit upon reservation, with the remaining $450 payable across the first 2 sessions.

Mental Health Care Plan rebates for group sessions may be applicable – please contact us for more information regarding this.

'Just for Girls' Group 2018 - Term 2 & Term 3

Step by Step Psychology are running a group program which is ‘Just for Girls’ aged between 8 – 13 years.

The group will have a project that participants will work on together over the five sessions with a focus on the following skills:

  • Working as part of a team/group
  • Negotiation and compromise
  • Listening to the ideas of others
  • Conversation skills
  • Reading and understanding non-verbal cues and body language
  • Theory of Mind (understanding the point of view of others)

 

The group will run from 4-5.30pm fortnightly on Tuesdays during both Term 2 & Term 3.

 

Total cost:  $550 per term.

Social Skills Group- Prep- Grade 2

Facilitated by psychologists at Step by Step Psychology, this intensive social skills program allows for children to learn and practise a range of social skills in a supported environment.

The program will be tailored to the needs of the children attending, but will focus on the practical application of skills, such as:

  • Coping strategies – implementing calming tools in the moment
  • Joining in – engaging with others via play and conversation
  • Theory of Mind – understanding the perspective of others
  • Team Work – negotiation, compromise and co-operation

There is a maximum of 6 places available in this group. The group will run at the following times:

School Holidays: January
School Holidays: April
Term 2: fortnightly Thursdays
School Holidays: July
Term 3: fortnightly Thursdays
School Holidays: October

It is expected that children will attend all sessions, with the total cost being $850, including a written report at the conclusion of the program.
Payments can also be made using FaHCSIA funding for those who are eligible, however, if a child does not attend a session, this cannot be claimed through FaHCSIA and will be an out of pocket cost.

Preschool Social Skills Group 2018 - Term 2 & Term 3

Facilitated by psychologists at Step by Step Psychology, this social skills program allows for children to learn and practise a range of social skills in a supported environment.
The program will be tailored to the needs of the children attending, but will focus on the practical application of skills, such as:

  • Initiating and sustaining play
  • Working as a team/group
  • Conversation skills
  • Implementing appropriate coping strategies

The program will run fortnightly on Mondays during Term 2 and fortnightly on Wednesdays during Term 3.

Investment: $790 including a written report with recommendations.
Payment with FAHCSIA funding is available.

"Building Resilience" - dates to be confirmed, taking expressions of interest

Designed for upper primary school-aged children, this program focuses on developing the social and emotional skills required to thrive in social and educational environments.

Many children have difficulty with managing strong emotions, such as anger and anxiety, and lack the confidence to effectively communicate with others. This program addresses these difficulties, along with enhancing coping strategies and your child’s self-esteem. Based a cognitive-behavioural therapy approach, the program addresses negative thought patterns to build your child’s confidence and ability to overcome difficult situations.

 

When: 5 weekly sessions

"Mindfullness Relaxation" - dates to be confirmed, taking expressions of interest

Our program is designed to teach your child a range of relaxation techniques to assist them to regulate their emotions and approach difficult situations in a calm manner.

Each technique will be taught and practiced, with children encouraged to practice at home and determine which type of relaxation technique works best for them.

Mindfulness and relaxation strategies are well-documented to help adults and children alike create a calmness in their life which can then be used when approaching difficult situations. These strategies can also help to reduce stress and improve sleep.

Teaching these techniques to children provides them with knowledge and skills which they can carry through adolescence and into adult life.

Information sheets regarding the activities and techniques will be provided to parents, with at-home tasks between sessions to enable the child to consolidate their learning.

The program will run for 5 consecutive weeks beginning The cost of the program is $300.
