Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Therapy & Counseling Melbourne

Step by Step Psychology have extensive experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder and their families. Children with autism spectrum disorder often present with social, emotional and behavioural challenges, and we work with parents and their children to address these difficulties.

Depending on the presenting issue and the needs of the family, concerns may be addressed through either consultations with parents, individual or family counselling, or applied behavioural analysis (ABA) program development and supervision. Some common concerns for children with autism spectrum disorder and their families include:

  • toilet training difficulties
  • concerns with social skills and bullying
  • behavioural challenges
  • difficulties understanding emotions
  • restricted and repetitive behaviour
  • difficulty engaging in play
  • difficulty tolerating certain foods or textures.

Additionally, Step by Step Psychology offer consultations with schools, kindergartens and daycare centres to facilitate the generalisation of behavioural intervention and skills teaching. We also work in collaboration with speech pathologists and occupational therapists where required, to encourage a holistic therapeutic approach.
